WHY CHOOSE A CUSHION CUT DIAMOND?

A Cushion cut is considered to be an antique style. There are many different cutting styles for this diamond, including the ‘Antique Cushion cut’, ‘Modified Cushion cut’ and ‘Brilliant Cushion cut’.

This diamond is much like a square cut but with smooth rounded edges and curved sides. It’s famously known to be a soft pillow-like shape, which is where the name ‘Cushion’ was born from.

The size of the facet will dictate how your diamond’s sparkle will perform: the larger the facet, the broader the flash of sparkle will be. With smaller facets, you will find the sparkle flashes in small bursts. This allows you the opportunity to determine how your Diamond will sparkle, by choosing from a selection of cutting styles. Though the large facets make spotting inclusions easier but also allows for a greater separation of white light into spectral colors.

This cut was first introduced in the 19th Century, therefore it’s been around for almost 200 years. For the first century of its existence, it was the most popular diamond shape there was. It was originally referred to as the ‘Mine cut’ and ‘Old Mine cut’, after the Brazilian diamond mines.
